Response:
Texas Tech University
does evaluate its administrators as required by its operating
policies. Memos from the Office of the President and from the
Office of the Provost provide dates for the most recent
evaluations of administrators for whom they are responsible. The
Vice Provost for outreach and extended studies has provided a
similar memorandum with respect to evaluation of senior
administrators on the remote campuses in Amarillo, Abilene,
Highland Lakes, and Fredericksburg. The Texas Tech University
Chancellor, President of Texas Tech University, and the
Vice-Chancellors are evaluated by the Board of Regents at their
annual May meeting in closed session (results are considered
confidential and are not placed in the Board Minutes).
Texas Tech
University Operating Policy 30.15 covers evaluation of academic
officers of the university, including the Provost and Senior
Vice President. Operating policy 70.02 deals with annual
evaluation of non-academic personnel. Evaluation of the Senior
Vice President for Administration and the Vice Presidents for
Operations, Student Affairs, Research, and the Athletic Director
was conducted under the terms of this operating policy.
Therefore, it is not necessary for the university to draft a
separate operating policy to cover vice presidential level
administrators.
