The degree granting authority for the
university is vested in the Texas Higher Education Coordinating
Board (THECB) of the State of Texas. Generally, requests to
create a new degree originate from faculty within a department
or college. Approval by faculty at that level passes the program
on to the next highest administrative level (college or provost)
for review. In the case of colleges that are organized with
departments, a college committee made up of faculty reviews the
proposal before it is passed on to the provost level. The
Graduate School also reviews and approves all new graduate
degree proposals. All new degree proposals are evaluated in the
Office of the Provost before being passed on to the Board of
Regents. All new degree proposals go to the THECB for final
approval before they may be listed in the University Catalog.
