  Narrative:

Texas Tech University is in compliance with Comprehensive Standard #3.1.1.

The university’s mission statement is placed on the university web site at http://www.ttu.edu/stratp/universitystratplan.php. The mission statement is also published in the 2004-2005 university catalog. However, the version of the mission statement published in the print and pdf versions of the catalog is worded somewhat differently from the board of regents-approved mission statement. That statement is in the html edition of the 2004-2005 university catalog, in the opening section of the Board of Regents Rules, and in the university strategic plan. Future editions of the university catalog will carry the approved version of the mission statement.

The current mission statement was approved by the Board of Regents on November 2, 2001. Board approval of the current mission statement appears in the board minutes for that date (http://www.irs.ttu.edu/Reports/StateReports/SYSTEM/Minutes/BoardMinutes1101.pdf)

The mission statement is reviewed by the board of regents at irregular intervals and as deemed necessary by the university administration or the board members. There is no board of regents or Texas Tech University Policy governing review of the mission statement.

The mission statement is readily available to the university community and the general public in hard copy and electronic forms in the university catalog and in electronic form under the Strategic Plan in the university web site and appears as appropriate in many other university print and electronic information sources. One could say the presence of the mission statement in university-generated materials is pervasive.
